Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans optional

Instructions:

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt

In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, maple syrup, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined

Do not overmix; its okay if there are a few lumps

Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350F 175C

Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil, frying a few at a time

Cook until they turn golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side

Remove the donuts using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil

In a small bowl, mix together powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of maple syrup to make the glaze

Dip each donut into the maple glaze, letting the excess drip off, and place them on a wire rack to set

If desired, sprinkle chopped pecans on top of the glazed donuts

Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving
